Emilie's favorite
rimets fossil valley
The sensitive natural area (ENS) of the Rimets fossil valley in Rencurel is particularly suitable for stargazing. With or without instruments!
Located on the western slope of the Rencurel valley, at the foot of the Coulmes national forest, at an altitude of 1100m, the ENS benefits from a night sky that is very little polluted by the lighting of the surrounding towns.
A large car park welcomes visitors at the entrance to the site. From there, the ENS is accessible directly on foot, either via a forest track, or by the GR9 path -Tour des Coulmes - which crosses it. Allow around fifteen minutes to walk from the car park to get there
Different spots are suitable for stargazing, but one of my favorites is located just above the ruins of the old farm, in a small field, at the foot of the famous Fossil Valley. The inclination of the field allows you to place a blanket on it and lie down to contemplate the celestial vault. Finally, before or after the observation session, a small picnic is possible on the ruins of the farm, or in the shelter of the bread oven...
But always with respect for the place and Nature!
