here, we have our heads in the stars

And stars in your eyes! Since 2023, the Vercors Regional Natural Park has been labeled the International Starry Sky Reserve (RICE). It therefore becomes the 5th site in France to benefit from this prestigious title to reward exceptional night sky quality. Notice to astronomy lovers and fans of walks under the stars, here are all our tips for enjoying the night skies of the Vercors!

VERCORS SKY: enjoy it

And who better to talk about it than Emilie Giguet? Passionate about Natural Sciences and a graduate in ecology, Emilie has been a nature facilitator for the Department of Isère on the Sensitive Natural Areas of Isère in the Voironnais-Chartreuse/Vercors Ouest sectors for 3 seasons now.

where to look at the stars?

In the territory, it is the Coulmes massif, natural and wild far from any light pollution, which is the best place for independent observation or a night under the stars.

The towns of Presles and Rencurel turn off their public lighting at night to offer you this magical experience under the stars even from the village center.
Here, there is no need for telescopes, you just need to raise your head to admire the beauty and purity of our night skies.

with a guide

This summer, as part of the free ENS outings offered by the Department, we are organizing two evenings on this theme at the Rimets fossil valley..

Friday August 9 from 19:30 p.m. to 22 p.m.: “Twilight and shooting stars”

During this outing, led by myself, I will first offer a short tour of the ENS, to discover nature "at dusk": awaken your senses (other than sight), get to know some birds of prey and nocturnal mammals, etc. Then we will settle next to the old farm, where I will offer a short introduction to astronomy (vocabulary, notions of scales and distances, definitions of celestial objects, solar system, observation instructions, etc.) before observing the shooting stars at nightfall.

Friday August 23 from 18:30 p.m. to 22:30 p.m.: “Astronomy evening, embark on a journey into the stars”

It is accompanied by an astronomy speaker that we will make this outing to discover the celestial vault on a summer evening, from stories to constellations.
Possibility of picnicking on site (picnic not provided).
