Starting from Rencurel, this final stage of the GRP Tour des Coulmes reaches Presles via the ridges and forests of the massif. Between viewpoints, magnificent landscapes and a wild atmosphere, before completing the route.
This third and final stage connects Rencurel to Presles, traversing some of the most remarkable landscapes in the massif. After leaving the village, the trail climbs gradually through forests, clearings, and high-altitude meadows before reaching the plateau overlooking the Isère Valley. This last day offers a beautiful synthesis of the atmospheres encountered throughout the circuit, blending unspoiled nature, heritage, and exceptional panoramas.
The route crosses the Rimets Sensitive Natural Area (ENS), a site recognized by geologists and characterized by its wealth of diverse fossils. To preserve this fragile environment, hikers are asked to stay on the marked trails, collecting fossils is prohibited, and dogs must be kept on a leash.
For hikers seeking an exceptional viewpoint, a round trip leads to the Pas du Ranc. This out-and-back trail takes you to one of the most beautiful viewpoints in the Coulmes, offering a spectacular panorama of the Presles cliffs, the Bourne valley, the peaks of the Vercors and its High Plateaus.
The descent towards Presles then leads through the forest before reaching the village, the starting point of the GRP Tour des Coulmes. This final stage beautifully concludes a multi-day hike that reveals all the diversity and authentic character of this discreet mountain range, where nature and heritage are discovered at a leisurely pace.
