Guided tour of the tufa quarries and buildings

Museum Overview

Over a 2.5km route, you will learn about the ancestral development of the village of La Sône.
thanks to its abundance: Water

The water, through its resurgence on the banks of the Isère, allowed the formation of tufa deposits. Water and tufa were the driving force behind the village's growth and industrialization.

During the first part of the route, you will discover two tufa quarries, how they work, and the associated flora and fauna. You will also walk along the cliff, which was quarried for several centuries for nearly 3 km.
The second part of the route will lead you to the discovery of the village of La Sône, built since Antiquity using tufa from local quarries. Industrial buildings, a bridge, a castle, a church, a tower, and individual houses bear witness to the use of this stone throughout the centuries.
This route offers the opportunity to discover nature, understand how it works, and become aware of the need to preserve it.

This event is being held in conjunction with the exhibition "La Sône créative".
Light refreshments will be available on site, in the shade of the plane trees, or to take away: sausages, fries, desserts and drinks.
Note: the tower and the church will also be accessible for self-guided visits.
