Presentation

Media library and contemporary art center at the same time, La Halle offers quality exhibitions, cultural activities for all audiences, fun family visits, workshops... Admission is free, walk through its doors without hesitation!

Established since 1986 in a rural environment within the Vercors Natural Park, the Hall has a dual nature: the same place hosts both the art center and the media library. This creates an original and fruitful synergy which is the origin of numerous meetings and cross-functionality.
The building, located on the site of the hanging houses, listed as heritage, took on the historical name "the hall" since it was established below the former location of the covered market, demolished during the Second World War. The ramparts of the facade were built following the bombings of June 29, 1944 which destroyed the hanging houses present there.
La Halle is today a unique and atypical place, built between rock and water.

The art center is …
A place dedicated to creation and oriented by the desire to present different facets of contemporary art. A wide range of artistic approaches and research is offered each season. The art center is part of a dynamic of support for current art, openness and experimentation.

La Halle contributes to the liveliness of the French scene while opening itself to international collaborations. The program is always varied: group exhibitions, monographs or specific projects alternate throughout the year in the exhibition rooms, the showcase or the adjoining auditorium.

Thanks to its essential location, a rich regional history and the majestic surrounding landscapes, the art center regularly invites different artists to produce exhibitions in situ or in close connection with its setting. It thus becomes a real laboratory for contextual artistic research while opening the door to universal questions, which animate the current debate of ideas and nourish the collective imagination.

The exhibition time is punctuated by numerous satellite activities (artist residencies, off-site projects, editions, etc.) and cultural activities (conferences, visits, meetings, etc.). La Halle is also a place anchored in its territory and its cultural action touches many of its visitors.

The media library is…
A place that works for the accessibility and dissemination of reading in rural and mountain areas. About ten events a year are organized by the Media Library, readings and meetings with authors, writing workshops, activities for schoolchildren.
