High place in the history of Dauphiné in medieval times, the site of the Couvent des Carmes invites you today to discover an exceptional place, between nature and culture.

In this former convent founded in the 14th century, you will discover the history of the Dauphins, lords of Dauphiné, as well as the astonishing collection of César Filhol, who was the creator in these places of the Delphinal Museum, more than a century ago. . The site of Beauvoir en Royans was in fact the place of residence of the last lords of Dauphiné until the middle of the 14th century and the vestiges of the dolphinal palace present on the esplanade - classified as Historic Monuments - testify to this prestigious past.
The Couvent des Carmes, whose current building was remodeled in the 17th century, also hosts a permanent exhibition devoted to the Dutch painter Bob ten Hoope (1920-2014), who lived for fifty years in Royans.
Outside, between the foothills of the Vercors and a bird's eye view of the Isère, the visit continues for the greatest pleasure of the five senses, according to the many flowers and plants of the medieval garden, and the fruit trees of the conservatory orchard.
