royans bridge

Like a feeling of having taken the wrong road or that it ends at the foot of the mountain… On one side a rocky outcrop and the gorge, on the other the river and the foothills of the Vercors. And in the middle, Pont-en-Royans. Houses on the mountainside, narrow streets, until you arrive on the banks of the Bourne. The horizon widens and so does your vision. You see the hanging houses that make the village unique, then, further on, everything shrinks. Pont-en-Royans is located at the entrance of Bourne Gorge, one of the roads to access the Vercors. These roads, created in the XNUMXth century, made it possible to open up the Vercors and its inhabitants and still today make Pont-en-Royans an essential place of passage.
Pont-en-Royans offers all the services of a tourist village: accommodation, restaurants, shops (tobacco shop, souvenir shop), cash machine, pharmacy, bus connections from Valence and Grenoble, media library and contemporary art La Halle.

basilica of our lady of the wicker

When he took down his pruning knife to go and cut his wicker trees in 1649, Pierre Port-Combet did not imagine that the life of this peaceful hamlet secluded from Vinay would be forever disrupted. That day, the wicker he cut began to bleed. Mystery... Eight years later, the Virgin Mary appeared to him. The announcement of this apparition is spread well beyond the borders of Dauphiné and makes Notre Dame de l'Osier a favorite land. From then on, miracles followed one another to the rhythm of pilgrimages. Construction of the Notre-Dame de l'Osier basilica began in 1858 and lasted 10 years although it was never completely finished.
For 150 years, it has carried on its vaults more than 3 centuries of a strong religious presence. The miraculous events, the enthusiasm of pilgrims for these places, the presence of a powerful religious congregation have marked Notre Dame de l'Osier which will permanently give an image of peace, serenity and contemplation.
