Presentation

Conference moderated by Catherine LECHENET.

Since the dissolution of the USSR in 1991, relations between Belarus and Russia have remained very close, to the point that a union between the two countries had been envisaged as early as 1999. This “integration” project was reactivated by the Russia since 2019 and Lukashenko's Belarus has been increasing gestures of goodwill towards Moscow since Russia entered the war against Ukraine. What are the relations today between Belarus and Russia and its two leaders, Lukashenko and Putin? How to explain them? What are the current and future geopolitical issues between these two states? This is what we will discuss in this conference.
