What characterizes the nan gorges?

For millions of years, the Nan torrent dug the limestone cliffs of the Vercors to join the Isère river into which it flows. This is what creates this emblematic incision behind the small village of Cognin-les-Gorges and which separates the village from that of Malleval-en-Vercors.

These Gorges shaped by the Nan therefore delight geology enthusiasts and offer some of the most exceptional landscapes of the Vercors massif. This site reveals an incredible geological history and harbors fauna and flora typical of the cliffs: Peregrine falcon, thuriferous juniper or elegant Doradille, a small fern that appreciates the cracks in the rocks.
